New Career Ideas for Brown Thread

My bad on the radio silence - full disclosure I’m aware I’m teetering on the existence of first world problems but a recruiter I used some at my previous company and have a decent relationship called me Friday afternoon about a job at his biggest client. It is a more structured, less chaotic and highly competitive opportunity. I talked to him about it a little bit, shot over a resume, figured why not, could be a sign, etc etc. They just asked if I could interview tomorrow morning. head to Nashville for a wedding tomorrow afternoon and flying from Nashville to California for a week of vacation after that.

The HS is going to allow me to let the interview process play out. As far as a change in salary, the new job would be a little bit of an increase but a better balance benefit from what I currently understand. The HS would be a pretty steep decrease (at least 30%) in pay but major payoff in having the same schedule as my wife (also a teacher), off in the summers, and doing something I love.

So.. all things considered.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My two cents:


If you are still having health/panic attacks/night sweats et al, and can fiscally within range maintain your current lifestyle to a similar degree (or you don’t have debt outside of mortgage etc) I’d 100% go the teaching route.


More time with family and doing what you love is what makes this crazy world most bearable. And ultimately what matters most.

2. Shows your value to them, surprised they didn’t drop an incentive/raise in your lap.


Still a pain in the ass to deal with though, but should cement the fact that you made the right choice imo.

I was countered in salary and in “changes” but when you’re out the door you’re out the door IMO
 
My opinion...it’s best not to get drawn back in by promises of things to come or better days ahead. Usually doesn’t pan out that way. Like you said...you’re already one foot out the door. You got there for a reason.
