What a crazy game, for 75% of it I would have been ecstatic with a tie. Absolutely pumped.

He seems pretty adamant that this particular scenario would not play out, that said, of course that is his public stance. Vegas seems to think otherwise. I almost expect the tie. Neither team wants to play another game and risk injury/defeat. Especially with teams like Ghana or Portugal waiting to pounce on any opportunity.

Win and we're in (obviously). Tie and we are in. Lose? Then things get interesting.

Because of Portugal getting stomped by Germany, they have the biggest hill to climb and have by far the longest odds. Ghana is a different story. First tie breaker is goal differential. If we lose by one and Ghana wins by two, they go through. If we lose by and one and they win by one, then it comes down to goals scored. After two games we've scored 4 goals to their 3. If they get two and we get none, they'd go through due to 5 scored for them vs. our 4.

Basically we want to win (bc fsck yeah, Murrica!), draw and/or pray for a very low scoring game between the other two in the group. As long as we also don't get curb stomped by Germany, a 1-0 Portugal win would suit us just fine.

And yes, this is correct also. The one scenario I didn't lay out is if we lose AND Ghana wins AND we end up with the same number of goals for AND the same goal differential, then we would go through due to winning the head to head with them.

Exactly right. The Portugal loss to Germany is a VERY bad loss. They would need a +5 goal swing between us and them during the final game to go through.

Also, my goalkeeper Tim Howard stood on his head yesterday. The save deflection he made on the ball as he was falling the opposite direction may end up being the turning point. I don't think we advance if doesn't make those 2 plays right there.
