Where is everyone?

Especially when the vercs of the class wanna answer all the questions, including the rhetorical ones

I had two strategies for dealing with a classroom. Either sit in the back row and read a book (no internet in those days) or sit in the front row and argue with the instructor to stay awake. No in between.

There really isn't too much worse than the bolded part. Well, in a classroom at least.

I mostly deployed that strategy in classes with a "participation" component. My goal was to cram it all into two or three sessions and spend the rest of the semester staring out the window. If I'd been able to have an internet-connected device like kids these days, of course, I doubt I'd have ever said a word.
