Wasn't he the first call last time too? The one that ended with the Herbstreit (I think) debacle where he reported he took the job and then Les backtracking and saying it wasn't true. Didn't that happen? Or am I making all of this up in my head?

I vaguely remember this to be true

I thought it was before the Hoke hire but it looks like it was back before the Rich Rod experiment. Surprised we don't remember it better because it was right before our last appearance in the SEC title game.

Those two story lines intersected Saturday as LSU coach Les Miles called an impromptu news conference to bitterly denounce ESPN for reporting he was taking the job at Michigan, his alma mater, just hours before Miles led LSU against Tennessee in the SEC championship game.

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit admits his report on College GameDay was "inaccurate." Herbstreit said he called Miles after the Tigers' 21-14 victory to apologize for causing a distraction. "He knows my character; he knows what I'm about. … For me to go on the air and talk about something, he knows I have a very good feeling about what I'm reporting," Herbstreit said.

I heard Mike and Mike the other day talking about how since the 49ers and Jim Harbaugh don't get along, would he go to Michigan if it opens up? I don't see it but it could be worse out there than we think.

I think Harbaugh goes the Pete Carroll route where he becomes GM too before going to Michigan but it seems like Harbaugh isn't liking San Fran and wants out. Also another consideration is his family LOVES Cali. I don't think he wants to leave there.

Yup.

Also Miles basically told Michigan in 2010 he would take the job only to get more money from LSU

If hoke doesn't win nine games.......he probably gets fired

If Hoke gets fired this year, I'd have to think they'd have to be turned down a few times by higher profile coaches before they'd call Butch Jones coming off a 6-6ish season.

If he makes it one more year, though, and Butch wins 8 or 9 games in 2015? Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Freakin USC grabbed kiffin off a 6-7 season.

Michigan just hired Brady hoke. I'd think butch would be an easy sell.

USC got turned down publicly by a few guys before they reached down for Kiffin, too. I can easily see them poaching Butch; I just don't know that he'd be in their first tier of candidates this year. Next year, though, he might well be right up there.

I hope our OL and QB play next year live up to your projections and actually make him attractive to UM at that point.
