Huge downside when all these troubled misfits decided not to get along

Not really. Take the chance, we have 0 big men. Roll the damn dice. Not like we are competing for a national or even a conference title this year. Large majority of the roster will be turned over in the next one to two anyway. He has a short leash if he screws up, he is gone.

If this blows up, DT's tenure at UT is essentially over before it begins. I understand wanting to compete and be successful right away. I'm on record numerous of being in favor of taking chances on talented knuckleheads an hope it shakes out.

But not like this.

A significant portion of the roster has problems: grades, eligibility, transfers, etc. the complete roster churn in 1-2 years you mention isn't a good thing. It's damn near catastrophic. We aren't pulling elite blue chippers. We need to build something. You don't build with one year guys and short fuses.

I'm not out on DT at all. I think his brand will be exciting. If we catch some breaks and some chips fall our way, we could be close to the top of the SEC. But if this season breaks bad in any way it could snowball quickly. At that point he's just another guy who looks like a man with absolutely no control of his team and is in way over his head. At that point I will cut him no slack because of the hand he dealt himself.

Well that's a fair stance. Valid concerns. Only rebuttal is this: he had to sign an entire class after national signing day. Just to have enough bodies to fill the roster. Wasn't dealt a fair hand when he signed on.

I do get where you're coming from. Luckily, we'll be in a better position to build a foundation with the incoming class of '15.

Blurb from 247

Former Memphis basketball center Dominic Woodson has enrolled in classes at Tennessee but his eligibility for this season is "yet to be determined," according to a Friday statement from the UT athletic department.
Woodson and first-year Vols coach Donnie Tyndall were quoted in the release.
"First of all, thank you to (Coach Josh Pastner), his staff and the University of Memphis for the great opportunity they gave me," Woodson said. "I'm very excited about my opportunity to be at Tennessee and play for Coach Tyndall. I've learned from my mistakes and realize I have a lot of work to do to achieve my goals and dreams. My efforts moving forward will be focused on making my family and all the people who have helped me proud."
Added Tyndall: "Dominic certainly adds some physicality and size to our frontline. He has great upside. If he continues to improve his body and conditioning, he'll have a chance to be a very good player at this level."
Woodson, a native of Round Rock, Texas, played 20 games last season for the Tigers, showing plenty of potential but also some off-court immaturity during his one year in Memphis — a year that finished with a GPA above a 3.0, though.
The 6-foot-10, 290-pound Woodson was the nation's No. 74 overall prospect and No. 15 power forward in the 2013 Top247 rankings as a senior at West Virginia's Huntington Prep Academy, and he was the No. 78 overall prospect and No. 14 power forward in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Saw some pics of big Dom and he looks in WAY better shape than at any point during his time in memphis

He is very skilled. If he maintains that level of commitment, we have a big time player.

Boom!

Definitely going to check out some Cape Henry games this year now.

Whew boy. I knew this year wasn't supposed to be a lot of fun but that was a bit of a rough first half to watch.

Gonna take some time to gel. Gonna take a really long time to find decent PG play.

Not that I really expected it but I have a feeling there won't be too much additional gelling between now and next weekend when I see them take on VCU. Have a feeling that one might not be all that competitive.
