Saltalamacchia is in Atlanta

Now THIS guy is supposed to be something special. A shame that the Braves' top position prospect happens to be at a position at which they've already got a young guy signed to a long-term contract. Still, a nice audition in the majors could help improve his value as an asset that could be flipped into something they need worse.

He's supposed to be such a good catching prospect that he might be of more value as trade bait than he would at LF or 1B; good-hitting catchers are rare commodities. Still, if he hits well enough, the Braves might at least think about it, given how little they have at either position.

Saltalamacchia activated, will start at catcher

Hello, Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Goodbye, Mark Redman, at least for a little while. Saltalamacchia, the organization's top minor league prospect, was activated today from Class AA Mississippi and will start tonight at catcher and bat seventh in the Braves' lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies. Backup catcher Brayan Pena was placed on the 15-day disabled list with concussion symptoms after being hit in the head by a bat in Tuesday night's game.

Redman is on the DL for an ingrown nail in his big toe.

Maybe that's why he's not been pitching well.

That had better be some creative roster-juggling to keep from having to give him his outright release. If an ingrown toenail has been causing him problems and that's why he's been pitching like he is, and yet they've still been running him out there -- well, there really is no excuse for that.

I was really being sarcastic about the toe. He's got much bigger issues imo. :)
