Could the extension given to John Smoltz signal that Liberty Media might actually allow John Schuerholz to spend a little? With the sale this close to being final, I'm sure Liberty Media signed off on the deal.

Braves sale scrutinized by baseball

Major League Baseball's review of the proposed sale of the Braves appears on track to be completed in time for the MLB owners' quarterly meetings in mid-May. Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said Thursday that his office is in "intense conversations" about the long-pending deal.
