Andruw Turns 30 Tomorrow

It's hard to believe he's only 30.
He's been around a loooong time.

You think the Braves could let him get away next year?

Absolutely . . . I don't think there's any way that they sign both Andruw Jones and John Smoltz.

I'm not sure that it would be all that big a deal if they could use that money to sign a leadoff man to play in the outfield.

Its just doesn't seem like the Braves without the Jones boys and Smoltz. But thats what I said with Glavine and Maddux, so who know.

I agree, I always hate to see long-time guys like that leave. Glavine and Maddux are two good examples and I'm sure there are many more.

That's just the way it is now though. Did you hear them talking last night about the fact that the longest tenured NY Met is now Tom Glavine? They've turned over the whole roster except for Glavine since Opening Day 2004. That's just crazy.

I didn't hear that. Unbelievable. In 3 years?

According to Bill James's Favorite Toy, Jones has:

a 97% chance of hitting 500 HR.
a 48% chance of hitting 600.
a 21% chance of hitting 700.
a 6% chance of hitting 800.

It's a shame to think of him hitting the rest of them somewhere else, but I just don't see him coming back. I think he's already on record as saying that this time there won't be a hometown discount, and with the Braves still operating under their self-imposed budget limitations, they won't be interested in getting into a bidding war to keep him.
