Braves extend Cox's contract through 2008


Bobby Cox signed a contract extension to manage the Braves through 2008. After that, it's anybody?s guess. The team announced the extension Wednesday, two months after Cox, 65, said he was leaning toward retiring following the 2008 season. He sounded Wednesday as if he might already be rethinking that answer, or at least wants to leave the door open.

Seems like a short contract. Is that standard for mangers or is it because he was thinking of retiring.

I read somewhere this offseason that Cox said he's planning on managing this year and next year and that's it. At the time he sounded pretty definite about it, but maybe this fast start has him reconsidering.
