The temperature dropped about 20 degrees from the end of the series against the Giants to the start of the one against Arizona. And for a little while Friday night at Turner Field, it felt like something cosmic might be happening. Lance Cormier, of the 13.50 ERA, was going pitch for pitch with Brandon Webb, he of the 33-inning scoreless streak. The moment lasted only until Chris Young broke through with a homer to lead off the third inning, and that was all that was needed for a pitcher not giving up a thing. Webb pitched his third straight shutout to stretch his scoreless streak to 42 consecutive innings and beat the Braves 4-0. The Braves fell to 4-1/2 games behind the Mets in the NL East.
