Say this for Julio Franco: On the first night of his return engagement with the Braves, the ancient first baseman more closely resembled a viable, productive player than the St. Louis Cardinals resembled World Series champions. Franco hit a two-run single during a five-run fourth inning that turned a 5-0 lead into a blowout win for the Braves, who pounded the Cardinals 10-1 in the opener of a four-game series at Turner Field. Tim Hudson pitched seven strong innings for his 10th win, Matt Diaz fell a triple shy of a hitting cycle, and Andruw Jones had two hits including a two-run homer for the Braves, who rebounded after being swept by Cincinnati.
