San Francisco — Cubs slugger Derrek Lee was sitting 20 feet and a world apart from Barry Bonds at a downtown San Francisco hotel Monday. A marquee star of a popular team from Chicago, Lee was talking to three reporters. Bonds was surrounded by a revolving group of 75-100 media members armed with notepads, digital records, cameras and extended boom mikes. For 45 minutes, a media circus. Bonds sat, unflinching, looking into the eyes of reporters. Baseball's big, bad villain was dapper in the slacks and vest of a three-piece suit (jacket on chair), sparring, joking and condescending, while never producing a drop of perspiration on his shiny, shaved dome.
