Los Angeles — John Smoltz's lingering shoulder soreness could force the Braves pitcher to skip another start or go to the place he clearly wants to avoid — the disabled list. "Two options, none I prefer, [but] one is the better option," Smoltz said Tuesday, a day after allowing three runs in six innings of an 8-2 series-opening loss to the Dodgers. The veteran's right shoulder didn't feel any better Tuesday, but he wouldn't know until he threw Wednesday what the plan would be for the immediate future. Asked if there was any way he would make his next scheduled start Saturday in San Diego, he said, "It's possible, but probably not likely."
