The Braves suspended Mississippi Braves manager Phillip Wellman for three games following his outburst during an argument with umpires Friday night, Braves director of player development Kurt Kemp said. Kemp clarified that the suspension — which begins tonight with Mississippi's home game against West Tennessee — was action taken by the Braves. The Southern League has not announced disciplinary action. The punishment came in response to Wellman's bizarre behavior on the field after being ejected from a game in Chattanooga on Friday night. Clips were aired on national media outlets, showing him piling up dirt on home plate, pulling up bases, and crawling to the pitcher's mound before picking up a resin bag and throwing it like a grenade. Before leaving the field, Wellman blew a kiss.

He should be fired. It was the most embarassing display I can imagine.

Anybody seen the play he was angry over? I haven't seen it and wondering what it was.

When a guy buries homeplate, steals all the bases and crawls to the mound on hist belly and throws the resin bag like a grenade . . . does it really matter what he was arguing about?:D

still...i think it was about a pitch that th ump ruled a ball..

Judging from his placing his hands next to the ump's face and then burying homeplate and redrawing a larger homeplate, I'd say you're right.
