Pitchers still firing away at 40

They're taking up whirlpool space in clubhouses. They're clogging up training tables. And some of them are still throwing 95 mph. They're racking up records, taking their occasional lumps, and even stretching the standard of baseball longevity. They're the 40-something pitchers, and the fraternity is growing.

There have always been crafty older pitchers, but the amazing thing to me is the guys like Randy Johnson, John Smoltz, Curt Schilling and Roger Clemens that still thrive with a mid 90s fastball despite being over 40. John Smoltz especially is probably as effective at 40 as he was at 30.
