Anthony Lerew earned another start with his strong performance Tuesday, and the rookie right-hander wants to stick around considerably longer. "If I can step in and fill a spot until someone else gets here, that's one thing," said Lerew, who went six innings Tuesday in his first major-league start. "But if I can take over a spot — that's something I would enjoy." He got no decision in the 3-2 win vs. San Diego, but he got much praise. He allowed two runs on only two hits — solo homers — with two walks and seven strikeouts.

If this kid can pitch remotely as well as he did the first time out and just eat up some innings, it's really going to help.

It would go a long way towards addressing the team's biggest weakness, that's for sure. Cormier is supposed to be on his way back before too long, so that gives you Lerew, Cormier, Davies, and James. All the Braves really need from the back half of the rotation is league-average innings anyway.
